Contextual Media Studies and Literacies: A South African Perspective

Contextual Media Studies and Literacies: A South African Perspective provides a firm foundation for exploring the world of modern media, at both a practical and theoretical level. As such, it offers a broad global overview of the media and its development, as well as more context-specific knowledge. Special emphasis is placed on topics such as culture and identity – particularly, as areas of contestation between the media and the public. In addition, students will be equipped with essential skills required by media professionals, such as writing for both news and entertainment across various platforms, analysing social media metrics with analytical tools, and critically analysing various media texts. Based on this, students will be prepared to enter the media industry with a sense of confidence and professionalism.
